Trend Line

Connect at least two (ideally three or more) swing lows to define uptrend support, or swing highs to define downtrend resistance; more touches make the line more significant.

What it draws

Draws a straight line segment between two points on the chart, typically connecting a series of higher lows in an uptrend or lower highs in a downtrend. It is the most fundamental tool for visualizing the direction and slope of a trend and for marking diagonal support or resistance.

How to draw it

  1. Pick Trend Line from the left toolbar (Lines group, or press Alt+T).
  2. Two points: click the start, then the end. Drag either handle to adjust the slope, or drag the body to move the whole line.

How traders use it

  • Connect at least two (ideally three or more) swing lows to define uptrend support, or swing highs to define downtrend resistance; more touches make the line more significant.
  • Buy bounces off a rising trend line with a stop just below it; sell rejections at a falling trend line with a stop just above.
  • A decisive close through the line signals a possible trend change; watch for a retest of the broken line from the other side before committing.
  • Steeper lines break sooner — when a steep line breaks, price often falls back only to a shallower line, so keep multiple lines of different slopes.

Settings reference

Double-click the drawing (or use its floating toolbar → gear) to open settings:

Setting Control Possible values Default Effect

[Tab] Coordinates number + datetime one row per anchor point: price (number, step 0.05) and local date/time the drawing’s current anchor values Edits anchor geometry numerically — changing a point’s price or time moves the drawing live on the chart.
[Tab] Visibility checkbox + number range interval buckets: Ticks; Seconds 1–59; Minutes 1–59; Hours 1–24; Days 1–366; Weeks 1–52; Months 1–12; Ranges (each bucket has an on/off checkbox, most also a from–to range) visible on all intervals Per-timeframe visibility rules — untick a bucket to hide the drawing on those chart resolutions, or narrow the from–to range within a bucket.

Editing & managing

  • Move / adjust: drag the drawing or any anchor handle; magnet mode snaps points to OHLC values.
  • Clone / lock / hide / delete from the floating toolbar or right-click menu.
  • Templates: save the current style from the settings dialog and reapply it to new drawings.
  • Every action is undoable (⌘Z / Ctrl+Z).

Watch out for

  • Trend lines are subjective — drawn through wicks vs. closes gives different lines, and forcing a line through only two points makes almost any bias look confirmed.
