Cypher Pattern

Check the defining ratio: D should complete at approximately 0.786 of the XC swing, with C extending 1.13-1.414 of XA.

What it draws

A five-point harmonic pattern distinguished by a C point that extends beyond A rather than retracing inside the XA leg. Its completion at D is measured against the full XC swing, giving it a tighter, more mechanical definition than most harmonics.

How to draw it

  1. Pick Cypher Pattern from the left toolbar (Patterns group).
  2. Five anchor points placed in order: click X, then A, B (a 0.382-0.618 retracement of XA), C (a 1.13-1.414 extension of XA), and D. The chart draws the legs and prints the leg ratios so you can verify the structure.

How traders use it

  • Check the defining ratio: D should complete at approximately 0.786 of the XC swing, with C extending 1.13-1.414 of XA.
  • Enter at or near D with a stop beyond X; the pattern is invalid if price closes past X before reversing.
  • Take partial profits at the 0.382 and 0.618 retracements of the CD leg, a common two-target plan for this pattern.
  • Prefer Cyphers that form at a higher-timeframe support/resistance level for added confluence.

Editing & managing

  • Move / adjust: drag the drawing or any anchor handle; magnet mode snaps points to OHLC values.
  • Clone / lock / hide / delete from the floating toolbar or right-click menu.
  • Templates: save the current style from the settings dialog and reapply it to new drawings.
  • Every action is undoable (⌘Z / Ctrl+Z).

Watch out for

  • Because C extends beyond A, the Cypher is easily confused with a failed Bat or Butterfly — verify the 0.786 XC completion before treating it as valid.
