Anchored VWAP

Anchor to a major swing low: while price holds above that AVWAP, buyers since the low remain in profit and pullbacks to it often find support.

What it draws

Plots the volume-weighted average price computed from a bar you choose, rather than from the session open. Anchoring VWAP to a meaningful event shows the average price paid by all participants since that event, a widely watched fair-value and support/resistance reference.

How to draw it

  1. Pick Anchored VWAP from the left toolbar (Projection group).
  2. One click on the anchor bar — typically a swing high or low, an earnings or news bar, or the start of a move. The chart computes and plots VWAP from that bar forward, updating with each new bar.

How traders use it

  • Anchor to a major swing low: while price holds above that AVWAP, buyers since the low remain in profit and pullbacks to it often find support.
  • Anchor to an earnings or news bar to track whether the market is accepting (holding above) or rejecting the repricing.
  • Use two anchors (e.g. from the high and the low of a range) and watch which AVWAP price respects to judge who is in control.
  • Treat reclaim/loss of an anchored VWAP as a regime cue for the move measured from that anchor.

Editing & managing

  • Move / adjust: drag the drawing or any anchor handle; magnet mode snaps points to OHLC values.
  • Clone / lock / hide / delete from the floating toolbar or right-click menu.
  • Templates: save the current style from the settings dialog and reapply it to new drawings.
  • Every action is undoable (⌘Z / Ctrl+Z).

Watch out for

  • The entire study depends on the anchor choice — an arbitrary anchor produces an arbitrary line, and freshly anchored VWAPs are volatile until enough volume accumulates.
