What it does
Supertrend is a trend-following overlay built from Average True Range. It plots a line at a multiple of ATR (commonly 3 times the 10-period ATR) below price in uptrends and above price in downtrends, flipping sides when price closes through it. The line ratchets in the trend direction, so it acts as a volatility-adjusted trailing stop that also colors the current trend state.
How to add it
Click Indicators (ƒx) in the header.
Search “Supertrend” and click the result.
Hover its legend row and click the gear to open settings.
How traders use it
- Trade the flips: the line switching below price is a buy signal, switching above price is a sell signal.
- Use it as a trailing stop: hold longs while the line stays below price and exit when price closes across it.
- Filter with a higher timeframe: take only the flips that agree with the Supertrend direction on the next timeframe up to cut false signals.
- Tune the settings to the market: 10,3 is standard, while a larger multiplier (10,4 or more) reduces whipsaws at the cost of later exits.
- Combine with ADX above 25 so you only act on flips when a real trend is in force.

Every plot's color, line width and visibility can be changed on the Style tab. Precision, price-scale labels and status-line values are configurable at the bottom of the Style tab.
Tips
- Its price-scale label can be switched off per-indicator at the bottom of the Style tab if the axis gets crowded.
- Drag the indicator to its own pane from the legend ⋯ menu if it crowds the price chart.
- Double-click any of its lines to jump straight into the settings dialog.
Watch out for
- In sideways markets Supertrend flips repeatedly and can bleed a strategy dry with whipsaw losses.
- Signals come only after a close through the line, so entries and exits always give back part of the move.
