What it does
The Guppy Multiple Moving Average (GMMA) plots two ribbons of EMAs: a short-term group (3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 15) representing traders, and a long-term group (30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 60) representing investors. The interplay between the two ribbons — separation, compression and crossovers — reveals trend health and the balance between speculative and institutional activity. It was designed by Daryl Guppy for trend trading.
How to add it
Click Indicators (ƒx) in the header.
Search “Guppy Multiple Moving Average” and click the result.
Hover its legend row and click the gear to open settings.
How traders use it
- Both ribbons separated and aligned in the same direction indicate a strong, healthy trend; trade only that direction.
- Wide, stable separation in the long-term group shows investor commitment; compression of the long-term ribbon warns the underlying trend is weakening.
- In an uptrend, the short-term ribbon repeatedly compressing down toward the long-term ribbon and bouncing marks buyable pullbacks.
- The short-term ribbon crossing fully through the long-term ribbon, followed by both fanning out the other way, confirms a trend change.
- Both ribbons tangled together means no trend; stand aside until they separate.

Tips
- Use Add to favorites in the legend menu; starred studies surface at the top of the picker.
- The legend eye toggles it off without losing your settings — handy for before/after comparisons.
- Its price-scale label can be switched off per-indicator at the bottom of the Style tab if the axis gets crowded.
Watch out for
- Twelve lagging averages confirm reversals slowly, so entries after full ribbon crossovers give up a large part of the new move.
- Prolonged ranges keep the ribbons intertwined and produce false separations that quickly re-tangle.
