What it does
Median Price is the simple midpoint of each bar, computed as the high plus the low divided by two, and plotted as a line. It condenses each candle into its range center, ignoring the open and close entirely. Traders use it as a smoother, less noisy input series for moving averages and oscillators, and as a minimalist view of where each bar's balance sat.
How to add it
Click Indicators (ƒx) in the header.
Search “Median Price” and click the result.
Hover its legend row and click the gear to open settings.
How traders use it
- Use it as the source series for moving averages or oscillators when you want indicator readings less distorted by erratic closes.
- The line offers a clean read of trend structure: successive higher midpoints confirm an uptrend without candle-wick noise.
- Compare the close to the median price: closes consistently above the bar midpoints show buyers finishing bars strongly, a subtle strength tell.
- It underlies other constructions such as Ease of Movement and some pivot formulas, so understanding it helps interpret those tools.
Inputs
This indicator has no configurable inputs — it works out of the box.
Plots & styling
| Plot | Style | Default color |
|---|---|---|
| Median Price | line | #FF6D00 |
Every plot's color, line width and visibility can be changed on the Style tab. Precision (default 2 decimals), price-scale labels and status-line values are configurable at the bottom of the Style tab.
Tips
- The legend eye toggles it off without losing your settings — handy for before/after comparisons.
- Its price-scale label can be switched off per-indicator at the bottom of the Style tab if the axis gets crowded.
- Drag the indicator to its own pane from the legend ⋯ menu if it crowds the price chart.
Watch out for
- By discarding the open and close it hides intrabar conviction; a bar that closed on its low and one that closed on its high can have the same median price.
- It is a raw price transform with no predictive content of its own, useful only as an input or visual aid.
