Bollinger Bars

Bars marked at the upper band in an uptrend show a strong 'walk the band' condition; treat them as trend confirmation rather than an automatic sell.

What it does

A visualization that colors or overlays the price bars themselves according to where price sits within the Bollinger Bands, rather than drawing the bands as separate lines. Bars pressing the upper band, hugging the middle basis line or breaking the lower band each get distinct treatment, letting a trader read band position directly off the candles. It condenses band analysis into the bar coloring so charts stay uncluttered.

How to add it

Click Indicators (ƒx) in the header.

Search “Bollinger Bars” and click the result.

Hover its legend row and click the gear to open settings.

How traders use it

  • Bars marked at the upper band in an uptrend show a strong 'walk the band' condition; treat them as trend confirmation rather than an automatic sell.
  • Bars closing back inside the bands after a poke beyond them signal a band-reversion setup toward the middle basis.
  • Bars clustered around the middle band mark equilibrium; wait for a decisive push toward either band before committing.
  • Use the coloring with band width in mind: signals after a tight squeeze carry more weight than those during normal volatility.

Plots & styling

Plot Style Default color
Zone data #2196f3

Every plot's color, line width and visibility can be changed on the Style tab. Precision, price-scale labels and status-line values are configurable at the bottom of the Style tab.

Tips

  • Save the configured chart as a study template (Indicators menu) to reapply this exact setup elsewhere.
  • Right-click the indicator's line for quick actions — settings, visibility and removal without hunting through menus.
  • Use Add to favorites in the legend menu; starred studies surface at the top of the picker.

Watch out for

  • Band position alone is not a signal; touching a band is normal behavior and reverting to the mean is only a tendency, not a rule.
  • The coloring inherits all standard Bollinger assumptions, so during volatility regime shifts the bands and the bar colors adapt with a lag.
