What it does
Standard Error plots the standard error of a linear regression fitted to price over a lookback window: the standard deviation of price's residuals around its regression line, adjusted for sample size. Low values mean price has been hugging its trendline tightly; high values mean price is scattering widely around it. It measures the quality of the current trend fit, not direction.
How to add it
Click Indicators (ƒx) in the header.
Search “Standard Error” and click the result.
Hover its legend row and click the gear to open settings.
How traders use it
- Falling standard error while price trends means an increasingly orderly move; trend-following signals are more trustworthy in this state.
- A sharp rise in standard error during a trend is an early warning that the move is destabilizing, often before a visible break.
- Very low readings mark tight consolidations around a drifting line; expect an eventual volatility expansion.
- Use it alongside Linear Regression Slope: strong slope plus low standard error is the textbook definition of a high-quality trend.
- Compare readings only against the same symbol and window, as the value is in price units.

Tips
- Double-click the plot to open settings directly, skipping the legend hover.
- The pane keeps its height in saved layouts, so size it once and it survives reloads.
- Resize the pane by dragging its divider; collapse it from the legend row when you need the space back.
Watch out for
- It carries no directional information and must be paired with a trend measure to be actionable.
- A single outlier bar in the window inflates it sharply, temporarily overstating instability.
