What it does
The Trend Intensity Index (TII), developed by M.H. Pee, quantifies how much of recent price action has been above versus below a moving average. It counts the deviations of price above the average over half the lookback period and expresses positive deviations as a percentage of total deviations, producing an oscillator from 0 to 100. High readings mean price has spent most of its recent history pressing above the average — an intense uptrend — while low readings mark intense downtrends.
How to add it
Click Indicators (ƒx) in the header.
Search “Dext Trend Intensity Index” and click the result.
Hover its legend row and click the gear to open settings.
How traders use it
- Readings above 80 indicate a strong uptrend in force; below 20, a strong downtrend — use these zones as trend filters for entries.
- The cross above 50 signals bullish control is emerging and is often used as an early trend-change trigger; the cross below 50 is the bearish counterpart.
- Combine TII with a breakout: a range break accompanied by TII pushing through 80 has genuine trend intensity behind it.
- Watch for TII stalling and rolling over from extreme readings as a sign the trend phase is maturing.

Tips
- Hide the study from the legend eye instead of removing it when you only want it out of the way temporarily.
- Merge multiple oscillators into one pane from the legend ⋯ menu to compare them on a shared axis.
- Double-click the plot to open settings directly, skipping the legend hover.
Watch out for
- TII describes trend intensity, not price extension, so a high reading is a green light for trend trades rather than an overbought sell signal — misreading it inverts its meaning.
- In whippy markets the index oscillates around 50 and generates unreliable crosses.
