What it does
The Klinger Volume Oscillator relates volume flow to price trend to detect longer-term money flow while staying responsive to short-term turns. It computes volume force from volume, the bar's trend direction (based on high+low+close versus the prior bar) and the bar's range, then subtracts a 55-period EMA of that force from a 34-period EMA. A 13-period EMA of the oscillator serves as the signal line.
How to add it
Click Indicators (ƒx) in the header.
Search “Klinger Oscillator” and click the result.
Hover its legend row and click the gear to open settings.
How traders use it
- Trade signal-line crossovers in the direction of the prevailing trend, which is the primary designed use.
- Trade divergences: price making new lows while the Klinger makes higher lows suggests downside volume force is fading.
- Use the zero line for confirmation: oscillator above zero supports bullish setups, below zero bearish ones.
- Pair it with a simple trend filter (such as the 100-period EMA) and ignore signals against the filter.
Inputs
This indicator has no configurable inputs — it works out of the box.

Tips
- The pane keeps its height in saved layouts, so size it once and it survives reloads.
- Resize the pane by dragging its divider; collapse it from the legend row when you need the space back.
- Use Add to favorites in the legend menu; starred studies surface at the top of the picker.
Watch out for
- It fires many crossovers and is unreliable without a trend filter, especially on lower timeframes.
- The multi-step formula depends on clean volume data and behaves inconsistently on thin instruments.
