Opening the dialog
Three routes lead to the same place: the gear icon near the right end of the header, right-click on the chart background → Settings..., or Ctrl+, (⌘, on Mac). Every change previews live on the chart behind the dialog. Cancel, Escape or clicking the backdrop reverts everything; only Save persists. In a multi-chart layout an extra Apply All button pushes the settings to every chart at once.
The five tabs
The sidebar lists Symbol, Status line, Scales and lines, Canvas and Trading (plus Alerts when alerts are enabled, and any tabs the hosting app registers).
Symbol is chart-type specific — it shows the style controls for whatever type is active. For Candles that means:
| Setting | Default |
|---|---|
| Color bars based on previous close | off |
| Body (up / down colors) | on — #089981 / #F23645 |
| Borders (up / down colors) | on — same pair |
| Wick (up / down colors) | on — same pair |
| Precision | Default (from the symbol), selectable 0–8 decimals |
Switch to Renko or Footprint and the tab swaps to that type's inputs instead — box sizing, imbalance thresholds, and so on. Each chart-type page in this guide documents its own Symbol tab in full.
Canvas: background, grid, sessions
The Canvas tab owns everything painted behind the price:
- Background — solid or two-color gradient.
- Grid lines — None / Horizontal / Vertical / Vert and horz (the default is both), with a color swatch.
- Session Breaks — a dashed vertical line (default
#FF6D00) where one trading session ends and the next begins. Off by default, and the row is disabled on daily, weekly and monthly charts — session breaks only mean something intraday. - Crosshair color and line style, Watermark (the big symbol text behind the chart, off by default), and Futures contract expiration markers.
- Scales text color and font size (10–14, default 12), and visibility modes for the Navigation and Pane button clusters: visible on mouse over, always visible, or hidden.
- Margins — top and bottom padding as a percentage of the pane (default 8% each) and the right offset in bars (default 5).
Price scale modes
Click the small gear that appears at the bottom-right corner of the price axis. Its menu carries the four scale modes as radio items — Regular, Percent (⌥P), Indexed to 100, Logarithmic (⌥L) — plus:
- Auto (fits data to screen) — on by default. Dragging the price axis turns it off; double-clicking the axis turns it back on.
- Invert scale (
⌥I), Lock price to bar ratio, and Move scale to left / right. - A Labels submenu (Symbol labels, Last value, Previous close, High/Low price, Study values) and a Lines submenu (Previous close line, High/Low price lines, Average close line).
- Countdown to bar close — see below.
Right-clicking the axis offers a shorter version of the same menu, and the status bar's % / log / auto text toggles at the bottom-right mirror the state, so you can flip modes without opening anything. Percent and Indexed-to-100 apply to the main price scale only, not to oscillator panes.
Countdown, labels and lines
The bar-close countdown renders inside the last-price tag on the axis — MM:SS, or H:MM:SS when more than an hour remains. It is off by default, intraday-only (daily and slower charts never show it), and lives in two places: the axis gear menu and the Scales and lines tab.
That tab also controls each label/line pair with a four-way mode — Hidden, Value line, Value, Line — for Symbol, Average close, Previous day close and High and low, plus the axis Date format (four styles) and Time hours format (12-hours or 24-hours, default 24). The chart's display timezone itself is set by the hosting application; times, session boundaries and the go-to-date dialog all follow it.
Status line (the legend readout)
The Status line tab decides what the top-left overlay shows: the symbol Logo, the Title (symbol, description or both), Open market status, Chart values (the OHLC readout), Bar change values, Volume (off by default) and Last day change values (also off). An INDICATORS section toggles indicator Titles, their Arguments (the "20 close" part) and live Values, and sets the legend background opacity.
Themes
Dark and light ship built in — background #0F0F0F versus #FFFFFF, sharing the same green/red candle pair. The half-circle button in the header ("Toggle Theme") flips between them, and the choice persists. Colors you have customised survive a theme flip: the switch only replaces values still equal to the old theme's defaults.
Defaults and templates
The footer's Apply defaults resets the current tab to factory values — there is deliberately no global reset. When the hosting app wires up template storage, a Template menu also appears in the footer: it lists your saved appearance templates and offers Save as template…, so a tuned look can be reapplied to any chart later.
Indicator styling is separate from all of this — each study has its own dialog, covered in Adding & Configuring Indicators.
