What Is Not Supported

The Pine Script v6 built-ins the platform does not provide — variables, functions and constants that fail to compile or always return na — and what to use instead.

Functions

Function Status Why / alternative
request.footprint() and the footprint.* / volume_row.* accessors compile error Unknown function no tick-level order-flow feed is exposed to scripts
request.seed() compile error no user-seeded data sets
request.currency_rate() compile error no FX conversion feed; prices stay in the symbol's native currency (currency= on request.security is accepted and ignored)
request.quandl() compile error retired upstream as well
request.economic() compiles, returns na with a warning no macro-economic series source yet
request.dividends(…, dividends.payout_ratio) accepted, always na payout ratio is not in the source data (gross / net work)
request.earnings(…, earnings.estimate) accepted, always na analyst estimates are not in the source data (actual / standardized work)
method called directly on a built-in series (close.myMethod()) compile error Unknown function 'close.myMethod' methods work on variables, user-defined objects, arrays, maps and matrices — assign the series to a variable first (c = close, then c.myMethod()) or call the function form

Variables

These names fail to compile (Unknown value / Undeclared identifier).

Behaviour that differs from the reference platform

  • Limits are ours, not TradingView's — see Limitations: 5,000 bars of history (max_bars_back is a no-op), 500 lines / labels / boxes and 100 polylines, 8 tables of at most 20 × 20 cells, 100,000 iterations per loop, 2 s per live tick, 10 s per full compute, 512 security pairs, 24 imports.
  • Time zone: hour, dayofweek, timestamp(), str.format_time() and friends default to IST; pass a timezone to change it. See Time.
  • request.security alignment: the confirmed higher-timeframe value appears on the last chart bar inside the HTF bar; per-bar dynamic timeframes are rejected. See Other timeframes and data.
  • Strategies: the 9,000-order trimming of the reference platform does not exist (and so strategy.closedtrades.first_index does not either); backtests are capped at 100,000 bars instead.
  • Non-standard charts: bars are transformed server-side; a Renko reversal amount above 1 and source = high/low are not honoured. See Non-standard charts.
  • Logs and profiling exist with our own UI (filters, source jump, scroll to bar; Profiler mode) — see Debugging and Profiling and optimization.
